There’s a lot of misinformation about diabetes. Let’s set the record straight.

Myth!

Many people with diabetes don’t have clear symptoms, especially in the early stages. The only way to know for sure is to get tested. Routine check-ups can help catch diabetes early, when it’s easier to manage.*

Myth!

While the risk of type 2 diabetes increases with age, people of all ages can get diabetes—even children and young adults. Genetics, lifestyle and other causes all play a role.*

Fact!

Staying active can make your body more sensitive to insulin, which helps lower your blood sugar levels.**  Talk with your doctor about a workout plan that works for you.

While family history can increase your risk, anyone can get diabetes. Lifestyle factors, weight and other health conditions also play a role.**

Myth!

Many people can manage their blood sugar levels through lifestyle changes and oral medication. Over time, however, the body makes less of its own insulin. This means, one day, using insulin may be the best way to keep your blood sugar levels steady.**

Fact!

If your blood sugar levels improve, that’s great—but it doesn’t always mean you can stop taking your medication.** Always check with your doctor before making changes to your treatment plan.
